Preliminary Task - Final Versions

These are the final versions of my front cover and contents page of a school magazine. I have toke note of the comments made by the students and then I improved aspects of my work until I was left with error free versions.

My front designed cover of a school magazine:

My final designed contents page of school magazine:

Preliminary Task - Development - Draft Version (Front Page)

This is my draft version of my cover page. The draft is going to be evaluated and then students will be asked to comment on the draft, commenting on what is a good aspect and what could be improved.

My opinion towards the front page was I found it not very organised, it seemed like images were being placed randomly and the lure's were over-powering the background image. The background image was iconogrpahy to Trinity School. The images I felt didn't really look superior so I decided I was going to move them into my contents page.

Preliminary Task - Development - Draft Version (Contents Page)

This is my draft version of my contents page. The draft is going to be evaluated and then students will be asked to comment on the draft, commenting on what is a good aspect and what could be improved.

My opinion towards my draft copy of the contents I found this very 'busy' and unorganised. In my final copy I was going to rearrange the images to make the magazine contents more superior.

Students point-of-view:

Louis Irving -
Shannon's contents page I found was good but also included bad points such as, she should include few less images. The good points were the pictures of people engaging in worship or having fun during prayers or school activities follows the institution well and the variation of images was good.

Nick Porter -
The good points about the contents page as followed are clear title, good use of lures, pictures are spread out well, clear references to the genre and good use of consistent font.
However, the bad points of the contents page include, the table being unattractive/not very nice looking, the lures are good but could include more and the there is some dead space.

Eden Tanner -
In this contents page Shannon showed good and bad points in her work. The good included, the use of shapes for the images and the use of the logo as it was a consistent reminder of the school and it emphasises iconography.

Robin Saker -
I found Shannon's work not very good as I found quite a few bad points such as, lack of line-bordering on the featured photography, the font for the contents is too stretched and I think Shannon could add approriate coloured boxes for featured titles/labels.

Kieran Cottingham -
Whilst reviewing Shannon's developmental draft, I have found the good and bad points. The good points consisted of the colour scheme as it represents the housestyle for Trinity school and this makes the copy easy for the audience to read. One bad point that the draft has is that there are to many images all pushed together and this makes it hard to look at each one indivdually.

Harry Stone -
I like the layout of the contents page, I think that it is inviting and attractive. I do believe that the there are to many pictures on the page. This can make the page look to busy and overpowering. The images could also be made to stand out more. Using an outline or shadow would make them more attractive.

Preliminary Task - Development - Chosen images

Preliminary Task - Development - Original photography

Here is a selection of my original images that I took for my magazine. I took serval of shots of images that I knew what I was going to use as I kept the images the same as my draft versions. I particularly concentrated on 'religion' as this was going to follow the institution of my magazine.

Preliminary Task - Development - Drafts of Contents Page

Here are my three hand-drawn drafts of contents page. I designed these drafts of contents school magazine which appealed to the specific target audience. The analysis of existing contents pages helped me get an idea of layout designs. I then used different aspects from different magasinzes that improved my drafts and was going to help create my final version.

I have created these drafts using  furniture and codes and conventions from the existing contents pages, which I analysed which then helped me gain ideas for the final version. The furniture and codes and conventions helped improved the design impact towards the audience includes by using images to make the page look more attractive, which encourages the audience to view the magazine. Both front and contents drafts have an on-going colour motif; blue, red and yellow.

Preliminary Task - Development - Drafts of Front Covers

These are my hand-drawn drafts of school magazine front covers. I designed these drafts after analysing other school magazines. Analysing the front covers of magazines helped me gain ideas and aspects of how I was going to design my draft versions, I particularly looked at the targeted audience whilst designing.

These are the three drafts that follow the targeted audience. I looked at codes and conventions from my research which include the mast-head across the top of the page and lure, the information for the front cover. For the title I will use the font style ‘Trajon Pro’ I choose this font because I think its clear and stands out, which will attract the audience. However the lure I have not yet chosen yet as I will look once designing to see what suits the layout of the magazine front cover.
